Punchdrunk’s SLEEP NO MORE

Sophie Bortolussi and Nicholas Bruder by Sara Krulwich

I  have to give it to Punchdrunk for giving a one of a kind experience in SLEEP NO MORE, Macbeth-1930’s style.  The set is excellent. As you wander through the highly detailed set pieces, the audience not only feel what the characters feel, they can see it!  The choreography is amazing as well.  It is a one of a kind experience….with that said, you won’t really see a full pledge play but snippets of it as all scenes are happening at the same time and you can only be in one place at  a time. If you are very familiar with Macbeth, you can figure out more things under the radar.  But either way, even if you don’t know Macbeth, it still is a fun time.

I have decided to stick it with Macbeth’s character played by Nicholas Bruder (in the performance that I saw) in 3rd Floor West. (It is easy to get disoriented since you won’t know where the elevator guy will drop you off, so this info will be useful for you to locate his bedroom).  It is Macbeth’s and Lady Macbeth’s bedroom with a bathtub in the middle.  As you can expect, Bruder gets home all bloody, strip off his clothes, get naked and clean himself in the tub then walks to the bed and lie down.  All of these in a slower than usual motion so you can really ogle Bruder’s perfect dancer’s physique .  I also followed him thru the pansexual orgy with techno lights up until the finale scene which is breath taking.

  1. His foreskin is not too long. As he lies down, you can see the head coming out of the foreskin

  2. I will be visiting this show in July. I am interested in following the MacBeth character. Do the characters repeat their actions throughout the night or do they only do them once? I do not want to miss the bath scene.

  3. Thanks. Besides MacBeth, do you recommend following anyone else? Or is it just as interesting wondering from room to room?
