Born in response to the news that the NY Fringe Festival would not take place in the summer of 2017, The FRIDGE Festival is a multidisciplinary theater festival which will feature new works. We place no restrictions on pieces and are excited to present a wide variety of genres. We do, however, require that all plays include (nay, feature) a fridge.

From the synopsis:

Talbott’s play, Nick and Zoe, begins at 3:28 am. Mid-August in West Harlem. One of those summer nights that feels like the oxygen is being burnt out of the air. Nick lies on the floor, wearing only a pair of dirty white socks. Zoe, lit by the light of the refrigerator, huddles against the doorway of Nick’s kitchen in the dark. Both of their lives have been irrevocably changed. We start at the end and work back.

My thoughts? Maybe Will will be fully nude!

  1. No nudity at first performance, but Will looks better than ever — face more sculpted, body tauter & leaner — and he gives a stunning performance as a damaged, seductive & violent poor boy who’s both punishing & self-punishing. It’s unlike any of his other collaborations with playwright Dan Talbott (it’s the fourth, by my count) & he relishes every second of menace & swagger with confident wit. He’s ready to play Stanley in Streetcar RIGHT NOW. The piece, which runs just under an hour, apparently underwent a lot of changes: Apart from the nudity that’s absent, the story doesn’t unfold in reverse order & it is minus a character, now discussed but not seen, which was supposed to have been played by tall & handsome Declan Maloney Drummond, who stars in the second short play of the evening, Sad Indie Love Song, written Steve McMahon.

    In the break between the two plays, I had the heart-stopping experience of watching Will take a seat next to another actor with whom he chatted, laughed and acted as if he was friends with from way back. Who? Seth Numrich!! Needless to say, these two rank in my top 5 male nude scenes in New York theater of all time — Will in Punk Rock & Seth in Talbott’s Slipping — and seeing them together made me absurdly fantasize of a male version of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes set in a hustler bar, with Seth as Jane Russell & Will as Marilyn Monroe (his wide-eyed stare would be worth the price of admission). I admit to gawking like a pre-teen girl at a One Direction concert, but if gawking were a crime I’d be serving a life sentence.

  2. Has anyone heard anything about the new production of A Clockwork Orange at New World Stages? Attracted, fit men are certainly a large part of their marketing.

    1. Audition listing calls for full nudity for one of the characters. I plan on going because I love the movie and the play was sold out during its London run.

    2. I just saw A Clockwork Orange this week. Unfortunately, there was ZERO nudity in it. Three of the guys stripped to their briefs, but the scenes were pretty short. Jonno Davies (the lead) is super hot, but the play is pretty weak. I didn’t enjoy it. The acting isn’t great and there’s this really cringey fight-dancing. So unfortunately, no nudity and the show wasn’t even really that good.

Before we get to the nudity, or lack of it, let’s talk about the seating: The sight lines, unless you’re in the front row, are terrible at this theater, which used to be, as I was reminded by my invaluable seat mate, part of a cineplex, which means the stage, when it is at or near floor level, is like trying to see something eight feet under a movie screen. To compensate, two extra levels of stages have been added, but I bet most of the house misses about a third of the action, which is both plentiful & athletic (the choreography of both Newsies & Spring Awakening come to mind). NO FRONTAL NUDITY, but the all-male cast isn’t stingy in the near-nudity department, especially if you’re an underwear freak: Nut-hugging white boxer briefs; comely black boxer briefs (part of a slow strip); a steady array of skin-stuck wife-beaters (so much sweat!); and the most fetching pair of orange bikini briefs with black borders & what looks like a condom tip at the peak of the crotch. Has Calvin Klein seen this show? If so, I hope he did from the front row, if only to see the Adonis-like lead Jonno Davies, who performs without an understudy, though Sean Patrick Higgins, as Dim & other characters, would also make an electric Alex.

    Speaking of actors, I was delighted by one cast change in the Central Park Hamlet, where I caught both performances. Had a most congenial chat, quite by accident, with Mike Press, who seemed delighted by the prospect of performing in the middle of an active walkway (it was funny to see bewildered pedestrians scurry behind the actors like mice missing a slice of cheese). In the midst of the mayhem, I had the most wonderfully erotic experience: At the first performance in Brooklyn, I saw, in the audience, a lean, shaggy-haired cutie, who looked like a cast member of Hair on break, and I thought, “I wish HE were in the show.” And in the Central Park version, he WAS — he took over as one of the Players & also played the gravedigger. He’s a Chilean named Pedro Fontaine, and for once Mr. Press had a rival for my wandering, pervy eye.

  4. Daniel Talbott is one of the great cock wranglers in all of NYC theatre history. Nearly every actor who’s ever appeared in a production of his has shown his cock:
